Sunday Check-In: What Are You Proud of Before You Improve It?

Before you make the improvement list, name what worked, what mattered, and what you are proud you carried through.

By Ayesha Boger · October 18, 2026 · 3 min read

Many of us know how to evaluate ourselves before we know how to celebrate ourselves. We finish one hard thing and immediately ask what could have been better. This check-in invites a different order.

Name what is already worthy

What did you follow through on this week? What required courage, patience, planning, honesty, or help? What did you create that did not exist before?

Do not disqualify the accomplishment because somebody helped you or because one piece was imperfect. Receiving support and adapting in real time are part of the work too.

Write three simple sentences: I am proud that I… I am grateful that… I want to remember…

Then choose one gentle lesson

After pride has had a place, you may name one thing you learned. Keep it specific and useful—not a judgment of your whole character.

Try: ‘Next time, I will give setup another thirty minutes,’ instead of, ‘I am always disorganized.’ Try: ‘I need one person assigned to this station,’ instead of, ‘I should have done more.’

Celebration and growth are not opposites. Kindness helps the lesson stay clear.

What are you proud of before you improve it? Let that answer come first today.
