Everyday Joy

Healing Needs Fun, Too

Healing cannot only be journaling and deep breathing. Sometimes it needs good food, music, people, and an outfit.

By Ayesha Boger Crawford · August 14, 2026 · 3 min read

Sometimes healing looks like a journal, a therapist, a long cry, or a quiet morning. And sometimes healing looks like getting dressed, turning the music up, eating something good, and laughing so hard you forget to monitor yourself.

Joy is not avoidance

There is a difference between running from your feelings and remembering that your feelings are not the only thing you are allowed to experience. Fun does not cancel the deeper work. It gives your nervous system proof that life can hold more than heaviness.

You are allowed to enjoy yourself before everything is resolved. You are allowed to laugh while you are still healing.

Make room for what feels alive

Call your friend. Wear the outfit. Order dessert. Dance in the kitchen. Sit outside. Go somewhere simply because you want to. Let joy be small, imperfect, and close enough to reach today.

What does fun look like for you lately?

What are you carrying that you need permission to put down?

You do not have to answer publicly. Just tell yourself the truth.
